Time-sensitive: Preserve the envelope and delivery details for any deposit claim. A response deadline may depend on when notice was received.

Your first steps

1

Build a move-out file

Collect the lease, deposit receipt, move-in and move-out photos, inspection records, keys-return proof, and payment history.

2

Save every notice

Keep the original envelope, email header, certified-mail record, and any written itemization or demand.

3

Make a neutral timeline

List the move-out date, date possession was returned, forwarding-address date, and dates of all communications.

4

Compare with the current statute

Read section 83.49 directly. Avoid assuming a deadline or remedy without matching the statute to your facts.
